Why sound helps at all

Is brown noise better than white noise?

No study convincingly crowns either. Brown noise sounds deeper and less hissy, so most people can play it at masking volume without irritation — that comfort, not any special frequency effect, is its real advantage. Pick whichever you stop noticing fastest.

Is it safe to play noise all night?

At sensible volume through a speaker, yes for adults. Keep it around quiet-conversation level; all-night earbuds at high volume are where hearing concerns start. For babies, follow paediatric guidance: modest volume and the device well away from the cot.

Will I become dependent on it?
